Having had a chance to look at the results now, congrats goes to Charlie and Paul Hildreth 3rd place with 9.5 lb or 1.36 lb average for 7 fish in amateur div. Jim and Bob Raymer with 10.89 lbs at 1.56 lb average 2nd place in semi-pro.

Walters and Solomon had 13.07 total with 1.87 lb average and big fish of 2.49 lb. That is impressive.

I'm curious to hear from the crappieking.... did you guys have a hard time squeezing out the 1.56 lb average... I mean did you catch 7 good fish and the rest 6 inchers, or were you tossing back a bunch of really nice fish? So what is the secret of the walters / solomon team? They are perpetually good.

They are a tough team to beat, competed against them in 1998 and 1999, they always seem to win Monroe. They have that lake down for sure

Guys we fished 100yds away from walters and solomon and they were trolling.
We ended up 5th in the amature not bad considering we have only started fishing that lake 6 times in Oct and then 4 times in March and April.
Tuff lake to fish for sure and to have 8.34lbs we were very happy.
We are quick learners and giving the same conditions next tourney we will do even better.

hey, congrats TDH... that was a great catch. Don't know the cross ref to forum names or would have mentioned you too !! Good strategy....just follow walters and solomon around. (only kidding).... or were they following you guys around, maybe? They probably read the crappie forum... and picked their targets after seeing your recent success.

Lol! HHD thats funny... We did not realize we were next to them until late in the day when we finally took our eye's off our poles long enough to see who was around us.
They were the only boat in the area for awhile and they were at least 100yds + away. Although there was another boat right and I mean right next to them at first light. But we couldn't tell who was who at that time.

I feel pretty good about our ability to locate where the big fish are especially when I happen to find the area the winning team always catches thier fish from.:D

    HHD,

To answer your question, in the practice days leading up to the tournament, our seven largest was far heavier than tournament day. We were actually disappointed. Our strategy was to fish a particular area in the afternoon that we saved for that time, and when we arrived, there was a team that had the entire area locked up. from there, we caught a lot of larger fish, but nothing that would cull out the largest 7.

On tournament day we probably caught at least 30 fish that were 1lb or more, and several that were close to that. We did probably catch about 40 dinks that day though.

    Hope this helps!

    Mr. Raymer,
For those of us who fish Monroe on a regular basis to help feed our starving children Is there a chance you might share with us the set up and conditions you found the good fish? Not asking for exact location just looking to help a brother out a little.......If this is crossing the line I understand completely.
