Has anyone used Circle hooks for Crappie?

How did they work out for you?

I switched to #2 circle hooks 3 yrs ago and very rarely use anything else. I dont gut hook near as many as I was using other style hooks. I love em! ......my 2 cents

I'm surprised circle hooks would work at all for crappies since you don't set them and just slowly pull them out through the mouth. I would think the pressure of anything being pulled out of a crappies mouth would make them exhale they are so sensitive.
Good things come to those who bait.

I really don't see where they would be necessary, it is extremely rare for me to deep hook a Crappie... but circle hooks are great little devices to use with live bait! No hook set, just start reeling!

    .

The way we catch crappie is would not work well with circle hooks. We don't wait until they swim away and we don't set the hook. Many crappie inhale the jig for about a second and then spit it out. Circle hooks do not work when jig fishing.
Live bait? Go directly to jail, do not pass go, pay 200+ dollars.

Did I mention that live bait is illegal in the Pacific Northwest states?

I use circle hooks aall the time for slow trolling. Have to be patient----let the fish do the work. Most of my friends don't care for them.

The litewire circles from EagleClaw worked good for us and as mentioned no gut-hooks with a long leader.

Circle hooks are awesome. Just not for panfish. :D

You can't use fish for live bait. Other live baits are perfectly legal.
    Don't worry, catch crappie.
