Actually WALK to the mail box..... and BACK..... many a time I risked life and limb... ok a paper cut... just to find out what was happening with family across town.... and on Sundays... and Holidays.... there would be no mail.... toooooo easy I say"

I remember party line phones.
If the phone rang it could be for someone in your house, or one of the neighbors.
If you wanted to make a phone call, you had to wait until the line was free, not just in your house, but at the neighbors hosue too.
That was back in the day when everyone sat outside on the front porch and you actually talked to your neighbors.

Yeah, I remember the party line phones. Jasper, Indiana in the late 1950's was the last place my family lived that had a party line connection.
