Anyone care to post a pic of their fishing outfit? I always like to see how others rig thier boats out. Gives us more ideas! I aint really rigged up (YET!) very much other than just casting a jig or watching a minnow or two but if this thread takes off I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours! :D

Yeah, I know you can't see any seating in the middle. I control the boat, hovering over the brushpile from the front and the clients sit on the livewell and baitwell. Come on over and let's go fishing, I have free lodging for good ole boys.

"The Beast" is a fishing phenomenon - tougher than a PT Boat and graceful as a catamaran - fires, tornandos, and attacks from ole king crappo, and "The Beast" is still like a Timex or the Energizer Bunny - it keeps going and going and going .............. you get the picture - I have personal knowledge there are torpedo tubes that launch pickled eggs at spy boats that get too close during fishing competions

I dont wanna spoil her with pampering cause then shed be like them fancy boats that get the rub downs-------looking pretty but never bringing enough fish to the landing at show and tell time to get a second notice. she brings everyone safely back to the landing that gets in her, even tho they spit on her, pee over her hide cause of poor aim or a short hose, farts on her and accepts all that evil smelling rock gut shes occasionally exposed to. even after all that and with several spectacular propane fires that scorched her hide and a motor fire that really hurt her and her owners pocket book, she is truly like a timex, she takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. now all shes gotta do is improve her aim when she starts firing them pickled eggs at intruders into her personal space........ps--whats a catamaran? :)

Rango, I am most impresed with your rig. A lot of serious time and thought went into that rig. Can literally fish from every angle, curve, direction. Very nice. Look slike a commercial for driftmaster :)thanks david. fishing for big catfish, striper, drifting for crappie, nightstalking and trollin requires different rod set ups and it dont take but a few minutes with a pipe wrench and a couple wrenches to rearrange the holders to meet the needs at hand. I have spent enough on driftmasters and ugly sticks to keep em in business thats for sure. :)

Until September, I had a Lowe 1448 with a 9.9 Merc 4 stroke that I modified for trolling/tightlineing for crappie. I sold that one and bought a Tracker Pro Crappie 175 with a 50 Merc 4 stroke. Here are a couple if pictures of the new boat; the first one is when I brought it home from the store and the second one is after the rod holders and bow depth finder were installed.

It's a 1964 Aristacraft with a 25th aniversery Mercrury engine wich is also 1964. Paid $800 for about 10 years ago. I only started fishing in the last 3 years. so I took out the fold out seats and put the two swivel chairs in it. That really opened up the space inside, added a sonar and a trolling motor, and some home made rod holders and she fishes pretty good. The last photo is a example of being rode hard and put up wet. But she takes it and cranks every time I turn the key.

Here are some pics of my crappie ride. I just got a couple 24" Tite-Lok tripple deck mounts, to longline with and 10 pontoon plate mounts(1" x 2 1/4") for the tite-Lok rod holders to spider rig with. I'll post a few more pics in the next month when they are mounted. The deck mounts will troll 10 rods but i will probably troll 6(3 on each) and 1 over the motor for a total of 7. The 24" deck mounts will mount to the left and right of the motor. Just behind the rails and where you see the carpeted area. The 24" deck mounts will fit in a track, where you can mount them or take them off easily. I am not sure if i have any pics of the trolling motor but it is a Minn Kota with the remote controls and i love the remotes. The trolling motor will scoot the pontoon up to about 3 mph or 4 mph. The titelok 5760 deckmount pic showing is an 18" mount and my two are just like this, except they are longer at 24". Seeing all these boat pics and nice crappie catches, i am ready to get going again.

Hey bingo, that's some h*ll of a motor on your 'toon. How does it ride? CEB -

Bingo
01-28-2006, 11:34 PM
I love the Honda motor. It's really quiet and runs like a top. The pontoon has oversized logs and is a tripple log toon, where it can add the extra weight of the 225. It would run around 43mph before the toons got algae on them. I had three coats of sharkshide on it and i am suppose to clean the toons and put another coat on this year. They say it helps with algae buildup but it is nothing i know of that keeps it clean and no work. By August i had slowed to 28mph.

When the toons are nice and clean, i can run around 20 to 30mph and do about as good as it is gonna do on gas. So i like the cruising speeds and any of them if you open them wide open, that gas hand will suck on down. The boat and motor really matches up well and runs good and i have been in some big white caps, trim the motor up and run about 25mph or 30mph and get on top of them and scoot right back home. I got the boat last June. I layed it out for fishing and pleasure crusing is a bonus.

Your boat looks about like the one that I used for 25 years. My motor was a 1972. That motor sure could eat up water pumps though. :( I always carried one with me. I've even changed them in the swamp so I could get home and wouldn't have to spend the night there..

But that boat sure knew how to catch fish in the swamp, and Salmon in Mich also.:)

24/48 seems to be a normal now. We worked days 1 week and nights 1 week with change day on Friday either being 24 on or 24 off... Every 8 weeks it worked out that we had 5 days off in a row and that's when several of us would head to the swamp to camp and fish, mostly in the winter months. Boy did we have fun fishing, cooking and not eating that smoke. That was almost 50 years ago and I still love fishing that same place. My badge was 125..

Firemen know how to cook fish.

I aint really rigged up (YET!) very much other than just casting a jig or watching a minnow or two but if this thread takes off I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours! :D

Here's my old, slow and ugly boat. But I do love it and you can't possibly hurt it in any manner. Many crappie have given their lives in this boat!

Do you have to permanently mount those on. or how do they attach to the boat?

I bought this boat and trailer in October and have been completely re-rigging it ever since. New steering, wiring, controls, battery, fuel tank, fish finder, gps, vhf and Merc 40 2-stroke. Next few items on the list are rod holders, front pedestal base and seat, bow mount trolling motor (if I can get one that will mount up), repainting the bottom (maybe the sides, same color) and repainting the floor with non-skid. I'll be using this boat in fresh and salt water a lot, especially this summer. Watch out fish, here comes the battleship!

ps--whats a catamaran?

A double hulled boat (not necessarily a sailboat). There are aluminum catamarans or maybe I should say aluminum pontoon boats since most cats have pontoons like my little ODC 816 cat that has inflateable pontoons and when the boat is completely disassembled, will fit into the trunk of a car. Pontoons can be made out of many different materials. This boat is more stable than a canoe or kayak and it saves space when storage space is a problem so I got this little cat that I really like a lot.

Croppy1;

I don't know about where you fish but the winds kick up the lakes real good around here, I like a little more depth on mine.

As far as catching fish, it is suprising how many places you can get them into. Gotta keep the top down going through the woods but other than that it works fine.

I am spending a little time overseas right becuase my favorite uncle (Uncle Sam) decided he wanted me to. I just thought I would post here what my fishing boat looks like. This is my first boat I have owned and I am sure me and my two sons are going to have a great time fixing this up for crappie fishing(not that it needs much fixing up). I have a trolling plate on order and I am trying to come up with two single portable fishing seats for the front. It has a Lowrance 332c fishfinder with GPS. The trolling motor is a 82lb thrust motorguide. The fishfinder on the trolling motor is an Eagle Magna III. I still have over two months before I leave here and get to take it out. Man what a long two months this is going to be. My wife got this for me while I was gone and I thought she was the bomb before she got this, now she is beyond THE BOMB!!

Blairarnold,
Your cousin aint BSn ya.
I love this rig. It's the most versitle boat I've ever owned.
The tunnelhull paired with that motor will near go anywhere an airboat will except dry ground. Motor and hull are built like a tank. I don't worry about the timber I can't see anymore. Occassionaly I travel down to south Florida to a place called Fisheating creek. This particular creek has a lot of shallow hard sand bottom. I ran one section of it on plane in 4" water for about 60 yards. Lookin back behind me I could see the creek bed exposed except for where the tunnel was channeling the water. Don't get me wrong though It will get stuck, kinda like how 4WD will get you stuck worse than if you didn't have it.:D

Jonathon,

When I orderd that hull is was living in south Florida. I use to fish and hunt around the shallow bays on the gulf coast and one particular creek that runs into Okeechobee quite a bit. This creek has a lot of hard sand bottom and also mud and the depth runs from 2 inches to 10 ft. or so. It also has blowdowns everywhere. This rig will go over the trees that would block conventional outboard motors. The tunnel preformes very well with the surface drive in those very shallow conditions as long as you have a relatively straight section to run in. Maneuverabily suffers when the motor is trimed up to place the prop in the channeled water from the tunnel.... but it get's me through areas without a hassle and minimizes damage to the grass beds. I believe it helps in rocky river bottoms here in Georgia also. A tunnel hull may not be the way to go if you are running a surface drive or any other type of mud motor in deep mud only (IMO).

the bases are from a set of LIL T BAR holders...i drilled and tapped them for the 1/2 all thread...the bar is alluminum angle..the peice in the center keeps the bar from twisting(it was the cut off)...and gives me a place for some spare hooks and weights..the wing nuts let me adj. the height of the bar...and side to side on the holders...
draw back..cant take them out too easy..they are siliconed and lag bolted to the deck...but they dont move AT ALL ...

dr_duff
03-23-2007, 01:35 AM
Pappa, I like the top of the holder alot and that is similiar to what I have in mind. The wing nuts on the bottom holding the rod holders themself are good, that way you can move them side to side. You don't have a way to move you holders up and down though. Do you feel that is a big disadvantage when it come to the fishing or it really doesn't matter to you? I am still pretty new to this type of set up. I found where I can get some good rod holders at a good price but I am not sure if i want to order them because I can't move them up or down. I can get ones that are dual angle for 5 degree/30 degree for $10 each(plus S&H) with the base included. I think having the two angles would be really good for me because I want to be able to power troll out the front of the boat and troll crankbaits out the back. I would like the low angle for fishing out the front and the higher angle for fishing out the back. What angle are the rod holders you have? The threaded rods that you have coming from the base on the floor to the aluminium angle , does that seperate from the base or is it welded to the base permantely?

Jonathan,

According to the GPS w/ just me in the boat and a new prop 28mph in shallow water (1' or less) and 25mph in deep water. It's an 18x44 with 31hp Hyperdrive.

There should be a photo of an old 12' john boat with a 5 Hp Mariner and sort of a trailer. I'm about done cleaning up the motor a bit now. The boat's tight, I found a nice 3 gal. tank on eBay (not that huge 6.5 gal. one in the photo), and the trailer lights all work. All the paperwork is done... took a bit of "doing". I still have to trim or move the fenders in about an inch each lest they tear up my 5' wide yard gate posts. Besides rigging a bumper for the trailer/boat front, better runners (they are about 8" long!), a battery for the trolling motor (might replace the 5HP w/ a trolling motor I have), .... what's next?? :D

Charity Case, Free Boat, Free Motor!....

'looks good to me! I have about the same. Mind came w/ a 6.5 gallon gas tank. Well, I didn't use half a tank all last season. I found a almost new 2.5 gallon metal tank on eBay for about $30 shipped and really like the smaller tank more. It took some patience to find one that folks didn't bid up to as much as a new plastic one (or more! ).

Enjoy!
