Thanks Cook and I agree when they pull the plug the fish slow down ,yesterday they were letting out about as much as I've ever seen.
Just thought I would share this info ,my original e-mail is the bottom one;
As long as the water is running it adversely affects the fish. I don't
really know why but I know it does. When they shut the water off the fish
will move to areas where you can find them again usually within a day or
two. The fish are really scattered right now and still deep. I visited
with the Corps of Engineers guy (Derek) the other day and they want the lake
two feet low for spring rains. He ask about letting it out and I told him
the faster the better. Get it over with. We want a cushion in the
spring. The fish will still spawn with the water coming up but won't be as
successful with the water going down. The bigger out cushion in the spring
the better the spawn for that year. The moving water should help the white
bass move up the river until it gets to low for them to cross the mud flats.
I believe he told me they intend to shut the flow off on the 15th of April
regardless of level. Pulling water or lowering the level of the lake pulls
the fish away from the banks which is where they want to spawn. Drawing
water during the spawn hurts our keeper fish 3 years down the road. Thank
You Gary Burton.

May all your live wells be full.Dave
Thanks for the info!
Thanks for the info. Weather permitting, the dust comes off the boat this weekend.
Work so I can fish and fish so I can survive work.
Kevin
I will tell you what makes it even worse.......opening it, closing it, opening it, closing it lke they are doing now! Completely shut my fish down. We caught them when it was open but they stopped when they shut it for a day or two and opened it again. Either open the danger thing or shut it!
they dont open alot after a big rain because of the rivers, when rivers go down they run water. I would rather them run it now and leave it alone for the spawn.
May all your live wells be full.Dave

Here is the link,I haven't been there lately, but the sidewalks are under water when they run around 1200 cfs...they are running 1550 now..lets see if they shut it down thur.
Yep, fishing was absolutely atrocious on Smithville yesterday.
Talked to every Bass tourney guy we passed and the most fish anyone had caught was 2. Stopped by a couple guys crappie fishing and not a thing....
been a long time since I got skunked! But it was worth it.
