Default Help with info on Arkabut Lake

I have heard a lot about the lake, and I'm looking for more info about where to stay, where to fish, who to talk to.

My wife and I are planning a trip in early April, any info would be great.

You can stay in Hernando or Senatobia. It will be about the same distance to the ramps from either city. Both have plenty places to eat also. You won't be but 25 miles from the casinos if you want somthing to do at night. Hope you have good luck. A two pound crappie is just another fish at Arkabutla. Ideal lake level for spawn is about 220. If it is 225, you will need a chain saw and jo-blade to get to two foot water.

Hope you enjoy your stay in Mississippi.

    Thanks for the info.

This will help in making my decision about what lake to fish. Like I said this will be the first time fishin' Ms. I heard Bill Dance talking about the lake on a TV show. He stated "The next record would come from Arkabutla".

You say not many boat docks on the lake? I like to pitch the docks.

I cant think of any docks on the lake. It is surrounded by Government property so no private developments. In April you will be vertical jigging in very shallow water. You go as far back up into the creeks as you can and look for bushes and man made structure like stakebeds in 1-5 feet of water. Vertically drop a red or black and chartreuse jig into each bit of structure you find ,no matter how small - let it sit for a moment and give it a jiggle. If they are biting you will know, if you don't catch anything the first few few bushes, try something new - go deep, go shallow, troll, do something because you never know about Arkabutla. Fish follow their own set of rules there. The biggest mistake I see new anglers make on Arkabutla is they stay on the main lake. You have to get way back up in the creeks during the spawn, I mean way back up in there behind the bushes, under the bridges, back into somebody's cow pasture to get to the banks of these creeks, but that's where the fish are. In fact, I would bet as many fish (and certainly the bigger fish) are caught during the spawn at Arkabutla by people wading through the swamps in a foot of water than by people in boats fishing brushtops in the main lake.
