You for sure can't go wrong with a Lowe boat. And do your best to get a four stroke, thats just my opinion. I have a 2004 Lowe FM165 v-bottom with a Yamaha 60hp four stroke, Got it new, boat and motor have been flawless. Good luck with your search.
I have never bought a boat but am looking to buy one for crappie fishing mostly. My budget says "buy used". Looking to spend less than $6k.
Are there any brands/models to avoid? Which ones should I consider?
I am currently looking into buying a 2000 - 2005 Lowe 160W ... is this a good idea?
What about a G3?
Lots of questions ... any help appreciated.

I have heard nothing but good reports on both the boats you mentioned. Good luck.
I bought a G-3 a year ago and I am loving it! I got the 1860 DX with 90 Yamaha and have not regreted it for a minute!
An ungrateful man is like hog under a tree eating acorns, but never looking up to see where they come from!
G3 is a very good boat. 4 stroke is the best way to go.
Politicians should be required to wear their corporate sponsors uniform like NASCAR !
for Alum I would go with F&F in Arkansas or G-3 has a good warranty.
I am friends with the folks at Legendcraft boats and know they stand behind a quality product.

I agree with the others about the boats and the four stroke engines, esp when its cold outside and my four stroke cranks right up, and I watch the two strokes crank and crank before they start. They may have a little more power to displacement than the four strokes, but you just buy a bigger engine to make up for it. They idle better and slower, and don't fog for mosquitos when they run.

I personally don't want any part of a four stroke engine. My two stroke hasn't let me down in 5 years and I bought it new. A good friend of mine loves an xpress and I do to because I own one but he is about to buy a g3 because the xpress just doesn't have the storage that he wants. IMO, as far as dependability and durability, you can't go wrong with an xpress.
