Default Crappie fishing near Birmingham, Al

I grew up Crappie fishing in NY on Chautauqua Lake. Actually, Grizz is the one who taught me how to fish for crappie. He used to take me fishing when I was 10 years old.

I really enjoy fishing for crappie and want to learn some tips for fishing for them in Alabama. I don't have a boat yet, so I need to know of spots that are accessible from shore.

I live in Bessemer/McCalla area, and am looking for the closest spots. I have been to lake Purdy, and really enjoy that, but I have a lot to learn about the lake and if there were a closer lake, I would like to know about it.

    Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the board!! Here is a link to the Alabama board.

    Alabama Crappie Fishing - Crappie.com

They will help you a lot. The search here is very helpful and just about every topic known to humankind about crappie fishing has been covered here in detail, so search away.

I had a chat with him earlier guys and sent him here, so show him where to go and how to get em.

I just took a look at the map of where you live and your smack in between a mess of great crappie water. Logan Martin is a honey hole. I'm not sure of that group of lakes to the west, but I'm sure they are crappie havens as well. I wish I had such good crappie waters that close.

There's Tannehill State park and Oak Mountain State park over there close to you. Both have boat rentals or you can fish from shore.

The Warrior river is also close to you on the west side of B'ham.

Welcome from Alabama. I usually go to Weiss or Neely Henry or Guntersville. They are about two hours away. Logan Martin at Pell City is about 45 minutes away.

If you are fishing Lake Purdy there is great crappie under the Grants Mill Bridge area just off I 459
