NFL changes rules for playoff OT

I didnt like the way it was done before, but seems to me this new rule will eliminate a chance for a last second field goal for the win.......plus, it should be for regular season games too........I guess this is really going to screw with McNabbs head since he didnt know the old rule to begin with.

I think it's a step in the right direction. Not sure I am 100% happy with the new rules. I'd almost rather see a basketball style overtime. Whoever has the most points after a 10minute overtime is your winner.

I agree, but I've heard some of the players say that they oppose that because of fatigue and risk of injury......BUT, the NFL is talking about adding two more games to the schedule....even a college style sudden death would be better, I've never liked the idea that both teams dont get to touch the ball in NFL OTs

The way they have overtime now is unfair, most of the time only one team touches the ball. The new overtime doesn't seem like the right move. I think some coaches will not be playing to win, but in the final minutes of the game, playing for OT. I think they should play college rules, but put the ball on the 50. I read today that this season's playoff games will be the trail period for the new rule, and if its works out, they could adapt it the the regular season. But, what if no games go into OT? Its very possible there is no OT in the playoffs and then we will have to wait another year for change.

Good rule change. This is only if the team who wins the coin toss kicks a field goal though. If they score a TD, the win.

NFL.com says they'll discuss it in May to add the rule to the regular season as well.

The athletes can suck it up. They get paid millions of dollars to play the game. They are panzies if they can't handle ten extra minutes maybe once or twice a season.

The college style grudge match is fun to watch. Just don't see that happening in the NFL.

just an fyi, the team that receives the ball only wins 53% of the time over the last 10 years. i didn't see much of a problem with the old way.

the only thing i agree with is that over the last few years, the nfl has given offenses an advantage when it comes to the game....handcuffing teams in regards to qb protection and touching wr's. this will probably continue and surely would of swayed that percentage higher in the offenses favor.

if they did anything, i'd prefer the college way. i love watching college overtime.

How about a rule on how much time it takes the refs to do a TV review. The games are to long for me anyway. Kind of like NASCAR with a ball.
