    Default First Jigs

Well, I did my research, read some books, watched Reaper's DVD and here is a pic of the first jigs I made. Now all that needs to be done is see if they'll sufficiently attract the crappie.

The white/char and the black/white is made with synthetic fishair. The grey/grey is made with real bucktail and, as you can see, has a tendency to fan out. I'm sure that won't be a problem once it is in the water.

Just thought I share with ya what I got for Christmas. Merry Christmas to everyone.

They look really good. If you need any input from field test, just send me a couple dozen and I will field test them for you.:D Seriously they do look good, maybe I need that for a hobby.

Look good Darryl. Give us a report after you try them. Look like Slaters to me with the chenille.

Yeah, I really like the Slater's jigs and wanted to reproduce them. For the price of my annual order with them (approx. 16 doz. differnet sizes and color combos), I was able to buy all the tools (a one-time expense) and enough material to make much more than that.

Darryl, I've been tying trout flies for years for the Little Red, and it just adds a little something when you catch fish on flies or jigs that you tie yourself. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Darryl good looking jigs. Also glad to see that one of the boys wasnt the first thing hooked with them. If you need some buck tail or squirrel tails send me a PM and I will hook you up.

Also I have heard rumors that with the drought we are in that if Ouachita is not at full pool by the first of April that they will not be raising Hammilton back up from the winter draw down. Have you or Jerry heard anything like this?

Those are some nice fish. The jigs look like some quality work too!

I'll bet the boys really enjoyed the day with Dad.

BTW... Julie is pretty smart too, huh?

i remember the first jigs i seen someone "ty"... old guy fishin from a wooden boat on buggs island... had one paddle.. took a gold hook, #4 slit shot, and some frayed nylon rope. put 2" frayed rope in shot, put hook in shot, squeezed together...caught a crappie on first cast and many more after...so they ain't gotta be fancy!!!
