3" + Jig for crappie

Does anyone use jigs/tube larger than 2". I usually prefer the 2" tube jigs to the smaller versions here in Kansas. Even in the Winter - seems that Crappie hit a larger jig better. Also, it might be all in my head but it seems you catch bigger fish of the super sized minnows.

Has anyone experimented with 3" or 4" tubes for crappie fishing? Bass Pro carries a 2 3/4" "Chompers Ultra Tube" that I am considering ordering.

Any comments?

I like the 2 1/2 curly tails when the water heats up to the high 40's. When the water gets to around 55 the 1 1/2 and 2'' works better here. Tried 3'' but I had more misses with the longer body.

3" I think is too big for Crappie. Thats only my opinion. I only use 1 1/2inch. & 2inch crappie tubes.

2 1/2" and 3" tubes are fine for crappie. We catch them all summer on crankbaits that are much larger than a 2" tube.

I use 2-3 inch curly tails a lot. They don't keep the dinks away though.

It is amazing how BIG a bait a little bitty crappie will go after! Brave little suckers!!!

3" culprit tassle tails and 3" Yum Beavertails. i have had real good luck with. Mostly when looking for fish and moving faster than o normaly do.

I have used 3" curly tails for over 30 years. They work great for casting. Sometimes in the winter on Pickwick Lake we use 4". Crappie will bite them.

They use 3" Rocky tops down here religiously from finneytribe.com on deep timber.
