Bout Minner Fishing

I have a question for those of you who use minnows to catch your slabs.
How do you hook it. My Grandfather taught me to hook it through the lips so that it hangs naturally. I fished with a new neigbor a month or so ago and he said he had only seen one other person hook a minnow that way. He swore by hooking them through the back under the dorsal.

I hook them thru the lips from the bottom up. They stay alive longer that way.

I hook em all sorts of ways, behind dorsal, lips, from below the head up through the top. It just depends on how, and cover I am fishing.

when I fished them I always went thru the bottom lip. If I was free lining with no weight I would sometimes hook them behind the dorsal fin.

I always either lip-hook them, or skull-hook em (from one eye to the next)

It depends on how I am fishing them, and how finicky the Crappie are. If I am straight lining them over the side of the boat, or if I am casting them out and slow reeling them in, I will hook them thru the lips, bottom side up. If I am using a bobber or float. I will hook them behind the dorsal fin, and that way they can swim around and attract finicky Crappie. If you hook them in the lips, then they can't swim as natural as hooking them behind the doral fin. The more finicky the Crappie the more natural you want to keep your bait. A live minnow is better than a dead minnow, most of the time, but there are times when it doesn't make a difference. That is when it really gets to be fun.

through the eye if i am trolling and some times when i am using a cork . some times behind the dorsel fin with a cork
