Could anyone tell me if Kinkaid is iced up? I fish north of there most of the time and it's hit or miss for the time being. I have never been to Kinkaid, thinking about giving it a shot on fri. I don't have a boat, is there any places that someone might share that I could fish off the bank w/ structure? Is it even worth a 100 mile drive? I've heard good and bad things about the lake.

Thanks in advance if anyone provides any info!

If you are talking about Sanchris, it is a power plant lake and should have open water at places year round. Sanchris is near Kincaid, Illinois. I have talked to a game warden that says he saw 17" crappie come out of there.

WhenIwasfishing - If you are talking about Lake Kinkaid down by Murphysboro in Southern Illinois, I doubt if it is frozen up at this point. According to The Southern Illinois Fishing Map Guide, shore access is limited, with the best access being at both ends of the lake at the marked picnic and fishing areas. Hope this information helps a little. Like Redtick said, some of the best open water fishing at this time of the year would probably be at Sangchris.

Welcome to the board. Think you find a lot of good folks.

Assume you are referring to Kinkaid Lake down by Carbondale. Might try to call "Kinkaid Village Marina (618) 687-5624. Not sure if they will be open but I'd give it a try before driving 100 miles.

You might want to consider a power plant lake like Coffeen Lake (south east of Hillsboro. Check out report at

It is about 70 miles from Belleville.

Hope this helps and again welcome to the board.

Thanks for the info! It is Kinkaid Lake down south near Carbondale that I was asking about. I might take a ride and do some recon down in that area if the weather is good. I need to find a new top secret honey hole.
