Default First Crappie and a report on the Rock

    Hi all,

I have been lurking for several days perusing the older post and picking up some hints about Crappie fishing in general. We just moved back to Mo. (Galena) last year and I started fishing for Bass after a 25 year hiatus. I kept hearing how good Crappie are and how easy they are to catch on the Rock.

Went out Friday, Saturday and Sunday at point 15 and was skunked until yesterday afternoon. Caught 3, two of them keepers with the first and biggest one a tad over 13 inches. Lots of boats from Cape Fair on up a mile or so past point 15, but saw very few fish being boated. Heard a tale of one guy catching a 40 pound Flathead Cat on a Crappie rig last weekend that took him 2 hours to land!

My other hobby is Ham Radio, hence the moniker of Radioactive. Retired, disabled, so have lots of time to go fishin'. Boat is 17' fish and ski with 115 Merc.

Haven't met too many fishermen around here yet, so if any of you want to head to the Rock around Cape Fair or Flat Creek and teach me how to catch a limit of Slabs, drop me an e mail.

Welcome to the site, Radioactive. Lots of good folk on here fish Tablerock and I'm sure they'll weigh in before too long. I've only fished that lake twice, both times in early- to mid-June, and that was four and five years ago, respectively. Couldn't do squat on crappie and had a hard time with the LMB, too. Deep water is hard for me to fish, I guess! I haven't been back.

Pretty lake, but...tough to fish in my opinion. I'm just not that good!!

Welcome from the Capital City. Never fished on TR, but have been down that way many times and have always considered it the prettiest lake in the state.
We do not want the gift of a fish; neither do we expect a lesson on fishing; what we direly need is a chance to fish
