I want to build me a minner tank. What is a good source to look for that would readily have them. Has anyone built a tank with it laying on its side?

go to a car wash and get one that had soap in it. Rinse real goos and you are in business. I built one from a 55 gal tank and didn't set it on it's side as I would have to bend over too far to work with it. I liked the height of the 55 gal drum standing up. You can see my post about the tank I built about 20 post down from this one on the main board. Title is Minnow tank by sac-a-lait.

Maybe a Flea Market?... just outside of Ohatchee Alabama on hwy. 77 they sell them on the side of the road if you're ever in the area.

One that contained soap is prolly ok... but I'd look for one that had contained corn syrup and still had the label on it.

I have one I'll give you if you are in the Chattanooga area. Doesn't have a lid.

Florists get that blue stuff to keep flowers alive longer in 55 gal plastic barrels. I have picked up a couple of them from local florists.

My local farm supply store have them. You may also want to try the smaller size stock tanks, most have a drain plug in them.

Have you got Rural King stores over your way? They might have them.

Rubbermaid sells containers that size, which you can find at pretty much any home improvement store. If you want something a bit stronger, check with livestock and feed stores for cattle watering troughs.

Go to dry cleaners, nursing homes, large hotels and get the empty laundry chemical containers. Most of them throw them away. A lot of them use 5 gallon containers, but a lot of others use our 15-55 gallon. The larger the facility, the larger the containers. Try not to use the soap containers and get the bleach containers. Our soaps have tendency to eat skin. No jokin!!

Hey,
thanks to Mississippi, I made one of these and it works great!!!

one bit of advise, when you're drilling holes in the PVC filter to allow water flow, don't go too big.
I went with a 1/4 bit, this is way too big.

Little minners want to swim thru the holes and get sucked in.
go with something smaller.

Another source of clean barrels that havent had chemicals in them is Pepsi Co. they ship the soda consentrate in 55gal drums. So check out your local bottler.
