Default Good Idea about saving money on line.

I was talking with a local catfish guide yesterday and he let me in on a pretty neat trick he does to save money on line. First off, he said that he mainly uses this method with braided lines but does sometimes use it with others.
When he feels like his line is getting worn out on one of his reels, he will use it to respool another reel. Direct from reel to reel. By doing this, the line that was closest to the spool and probably never used, is now on the outside of the spool. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Anybody ever try this?

Yes, after bout 2 years on my braids I reverse them onto other reel spools and get another 2 years out of them. sometimes in 2nd year I cut off the last 10 feet or so.

I pull my fireline off the reel out into the yard and then respool it backwards onto the reel again...

This helps keep twists out of the line....

Another trick I have learned with Fireline in the 130 yd spools.....I have a point in my yard that is exactly 65 yds (1/2 spool) from where I spool my reels...I get 2 reels spooled this way without wasting any leftovers on the spool...

When I spool bigger reels... I use some backing line on the reel...

I usually strip off about 40 yards of old line and replace it with new line. I tie it with a blood knot. Very seldom do I strip all the old line off a reel to replace it with new.

That is a pretty good idea!! Years ago I started wrapping electrical tape around my spool and then running the line on the reel on top of the tape. It has worked perfectly, and a box of line will go a lot farther. I have never had a fish take me down to the tape, you can still spool up with plenty of line to catch any fish.

Been doing this for several yrs. now with Fireline. That stuff cost to much not to. I also use a Highliter pen to put the color back in when it starts to face. Someone on here said that he uses a Q tip dipped in that bait die.

I've done it with my braided baitcasting lines and my fly lines but I usually use BPS (old stuff) and when it runs out I'll have to find a new line, but it's cheap enough to just respool every year.
