Hey M-D, Bass Pro has all that kind of stuff. I'm not into tying my own (so far) but i've seen it there in the fly fishing part of the store. If you got a BPS near you, the guys in that department are usually pretty well informed. Good luck
I was wondering where an individual could order marabou, chenille, thread, head cement and other supplies. If you could give me a website or a phone number, it would be appreciated. I am just starting out and wondered what types of marabou, chenille and thread a person should get to tie crappie jigs. Especially if there are any products, one does not want to get? I appreciate the help.
Good Fishing,
Mud-Dabber

But this web-site seems to have a lot of what you are asking about.
I don't know about the product nor the prices, but have a good variety.
Good luck!

Hey Mud, I'm currently in the process of getting the tools and materials for making my own jigs too. I been doing some research and found that Jann's Netcraft - http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/ - have the most reasonable prices; however most are close in their prices.
I have decided not to pour my own jigheads, but rather buy them pre-poured and tie the rest myself. If you want to pour your own lead, do a search on Jann's for "round jig head mold." Here is a list of tools and materials from Jann's with stock numbers that I have compiled that I "think" one would need to get started.
Materials:
345445 Unpainted Round Jig Head - 1/32
Unpainted Round Jig Head - 1/16
240300 3/0 Fly Tying Thread - Red
630611 Two-sided Wide Tinsel
620702 Water-based Head Cement
610101 Bucktail - White
Bucktail - Black
Bucktail - Gray
Bucktail - Flo Char
620913 Acrylic Popper Paint - White
Acrylic Popper Paint - Black
Acrylic Popper Paint - Yellow
Acrylic Popper Paint - Red
Tools:
420301 Fly Tying Vise
420441 Standard Bobbin w/ Collar
420401 4" Medium Scissors
420429 Large Standard Hackle Pliers
420433 Large Hair Stacker
420459 Hackle Gauge
420720 Application Jar
Other Tools:
Lamp
Table
Material/Tackle Boxes
Hope this helps and good luck.

I appreciate the help, exactly what I was hoping for, you are the best. Darryl, thanks for the list.
Darryl, you need to come visit the Lubbock area, the geese and waterfowl are about to take over the whole area. Outstanding hunting right now after the cold front last week. Best quail hunting the area has seen in at least 25 years, of course the grass burrs are horrible.
Thanks All,
Mud-Dabber, Ron Dennis/Abilene
cabelas has the best marabou feathers that can be purchased in 1-ounce packages, barlowstackle.com for hooks and chenille. these are the best prices i have been able to find. hope this helps.
MD.
Since you live in Texas, if you shop on line at Barlow's you will get hit with the shipping fee & the sales tax.
Shopping at Janns is a way around that. From what I've seen, and someone has already stated as much, the prices are all about the same. You can do some real nit-picking and find that chenille at one place may be a couple-a-pennies cheaper at one place, but thread may be the opposite.
I've had no problems making my purchases at Janns'. In fact, I just recently placed an order where a couple of the items were out of stock and backordered. The bakordered items shipped the next day.
Of course, I may know somewhere where you can get your jig heads. :D
Email me if you have any other questions. I'll be glad to help on specific items like chenille, thread, tail (feather, marabou, buck tail), paint.
I found the pre-molded painted and unpainted round jig heads "without" collars for tying jigs at Cabelas. Here are the links:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...equestid=59222
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...h-results1.jsp
If anyone knows of a cheaper place where you can buy in qty's of 25, 50, or 100, that would be great to know. From what I've seen, those tied with a collar result in a fatter body and a smaller head because some of the jig weight is in the collar. Those without a collar should produce a normal head and body.

Darryl,
I custom pour jig heads.
I pour round heads with or without the collar from 1/32oz to 1/4 oz
with anywhere from a #8 to a 1/0 hook.
My jig heads are .12 cents each for non collar and .15 cents each for collar plus shipping.
The good thing (price may not be perfect) is that you can get a 1/32oz with a #8, #6, or #4 hook or a 1/4oz with a #6, #4, #2, 1/0 hook.
So if you want a bigger head with a smaller hook, I can do it.
Likewise, if you want a smaller head with a bigger hook, I can do that too.
Check my website for all of the available head size, hook size combinations.
