Default Piedmont Team Crappie & Bass results..Jordan..Feb. 20th

Piedmont Bass Classics & Team Crappie Results
    February 20, 2010...Jordan Lake

    Team Bass Division:
Word for the day...."Lathargic". 8 solid teams with a chance of winning up to $970 in cash and prizes,
blasted off at 6:45 am in 27 degree temps. They returned to the Farrington Point Wildlife ramp at 3 pm.
No fish were weighed in. The anglers threw everything, except the kitchen sink, and came up zero! I
talked to veteran tournament fisherman, Todd Sumner from Southern Pines, about what might have
caused the zero catch. Todd gave numerous explanations as to why the bite is like it is. He stated "The
water temps are extremely cold, 37 to 44 degrees, and they need to be 50's on up. This winter had
been extremely long, cold and wet. The worst since '93. The shad die-off has been extreme and the
bass don't eat much this time of year anyway with the water temps so cold. When they do eat, it's
usually the shad that fall right in front of them, and it doesn't take much for them to have enough food
to last a week! In addition, the Corps of Engineers is drawing water from Jordan at a high rate, and that
also can cause the bite to either stop or slow down. It's the 'Perfect Storm' for a 'lock-jaw situation."
Lathargic means: tired: physically slow and mentally dull as a result of tiredness, disease, or drugs. We
know that bass are sometimes mentally dull and tired. We can also assume they are not diseased or 'do
drugs'. But we do know now, they are COLD !! 1 Fish would have won $970....The gift certificate that was
to be awarded to the 1st place team by Farrell's Lakeside, will be added to the 1st place prize package
in the March 27th event at Jordan, giving the 1st place winning team a bonus of $750 in cash and
prizes! It ended up being a really pretty day, however.....
NEXT TOURNAMENT: March 6th at Shearon Harris out of Holleman's Crossing Wildlife Ramp.

    Team Crappie Division:
2 teams showed up, even after the Friday pre-fishing produced little. The
father-son team of Aaron & Chester Eubanks from Lillington, out fished the team of Rod King & Drew
Smith, to take the 1st place winner take all event. Aaron & Chester weighed in 10 crappie weighing a
total of 8.97 pounds including the 'big fish winner' weighing 1.56 pounds. Total winnings: $90. The
Eubanks caught all their fish in 9 foot of water in a creek channel using a combination of jigs tipped
with minnows and just minnows, fishing dead on the bottom. They were anchored and straight-lining
the rigs and the bite was so slight, they really had to watch the rod tips. The crappie are cold too!
Congrats to Aaron & Chester. Nice job!
NEXT TOURNAMENT: March 6th at Shearon Harris out of Holleman's Crossing Wildlife Ramp.
