I was hoping some of you could give me some feedback on your guess as to how big this crappie I caught was. The colorado state record is only 3lbs 4oz but of coarse i will never know if i beat that since i put it back into the hole. I didnt have a scale or measuring tape but after measuring the 6 gallon bucket and fishing pole it was no less than 17 inches. The hole in the ice was ~9 inches in diameter. We dont catch to many crappie out here so that is why I was looking for your experienced input.

Thanks

since no one will ever know and you couldn't claim it anyhow since you put it back before wieghting I'd say 4 pounds

Very nice fish. Taking all into consideration that fish can weigh as much as you want it to. No one can prove any different ! Fisherman's option . Too tell the truth ?

well i tried the online calculators and they said it was a 4lbs crappie. So im going to go with that (just kidding). I remeasured the fish and the pole in the picture and came to a more accurate number of 17.5 inches. I was more astounded with how tall and thick this fish was than anything. I have caught 1lbs 14oz crappie before and this one eclipsed that.

thanks for all your input. heres one last picture for you

... can you downsize that last pic just a tad :p

It's gonna take the dial-up boys a week to download the pic :D

Seriously though ... try and keep the pics down to a 640x480 size limit, if you would please. ;)

... cp

Here you go.

I caught a 2lb 9oz crappie that was only 16.25" so if yours was 17.5" it could very well be 3lbs.

Too bad you didn't catch it in Arkansas. it would have went 5 lbs easy. Right Creekslick??

Very nice fish though.

It's not easy trying to get a good pic of a fish when you are by yourself :D:D
Nice crappie to be proud of :)
