Depending on where, in the "Vampire State", you live, one of the guys over at UNYF has a standing invitation to show newbie hard water fishermen the ropes. You can contact him through UNYF or here at CDC. His user name here is camofish.

    He's in the Saratoga area.

I've found that fishermen are a friendly sort - just take that coffee supply and head out onto inhabited ice and I'm sure you'll see and hear a lot of stories without interupting anybody at all. Collect a lot of real time info from various sources and meet some local folks too :p
You can't just walk up to folks in the water in the summer !:D

If there's no pictures, it didn't happen LOL!!!!

Glad to hear you got out and had some luck. Now you need to take a camera with you so we can see all those fishies you're catching!!!

I was up in NY this past weekend for Ice fishing.. No Crappie though... Yellow Perch out of the Wigwam at Sandy Pond. It was a slow day on Friday but had a better day on Saturday.. Weather was up into the 40's so we did not even use out tents.. We had our best luck fishing in real close to shore in about 4 feet of water.. Tried some of the Liquid Minnow and slab sause but the fish wanted nothing this day but a Kastmaster with a Perch eye (started the day out with a minnow but you really had to work for it to get a fish)

I'll post some pictures of my advenure up later tonight..

Glad to hear you got up this way and managed to get a few for the dinner table!!!
You timed it just right, the ice will be gone before long - I give it a couple more days to get to where it's not safe anymore, then if the weather keeps up like it has been, it'll be gone in a week or two.

Then it'll be OPEN WATER TIME!!!! OH YEAH!
