Default New to Crappie Fishing - Advise?

Okay well its more like new to freshwater fishing in general.
About 6-7yrs ago my family moved from the florida keys to the
DeLand/Daytona area and during that time my dad sold his boat.
He was a commerical fisherman, though for as long as I could remember
he had been a weekend-fisherman with a regular week job.

Since then we've tried some basic fishing - you know, fishing from shore.
We've caught a few panfish but not alot and generally we don't have tons
of time to go out fishing. We've been looking for a boat ontop of this and
we just found one bout 3-weeks ago. Its a real nice deal and perfect for us.
It is a 15' V-hull with a 9.9HP 4-stroke Honda outboard on the back of it.
It has 2 dry storage wells and a (yet to be tested) live well in the center.
Its perfect for us to use since we're really the only ones who like to go fishing.

So now we're re-learning how to fish - freshwater this time. We really have no
clue as far as bait, tackle, etc. goes. We have 3 basic spinning rod/reel combos
with about 10-15-lb test string on them. I have a bait caster I don't use much
that has 15-lb (I think) string on it. We're going to be working on the boat
this weekend and I figured it'd be a good time to get our tackle ready for the
next time we go out. We've tried the St. John's and Lake Dieaz - I can't
spell the name but anybody familar with the DeLand/DeLeon Springs area
will know it. It is the Spanish-named lake off of SR #11 heading north.

Like I said looking for tons of advise :D Oh and we don't have anything
like a trolling motor or a fish/depth finder as of right now.

EDIT - Oops didn't notice the "State Boards" - might be best if a mod moved
this over to the Florida forum...sorry bout this. Newbie mistake :o
