    Cool 12V portable coolers

I'm thinking of adding a 12v cooler to my boat.
My friend and I fish all day and run out of cold drink.
Do these coolers work good? would this be a nice addition to my boat?
Would I be better of to bring ice and save the batt?
    Thanks for your feedback

Its great for a guy in a ski boat who dont depend on the batteries as we do fishing. It would be partly dependant on your style, meaning do you fish a long day? Do you ride trolling motor hard with your style of fishing? I will say this, they pull on a battery real hard so keep that in mind. Also, if left in the sun, it wont bring the drink down to a temp anywhere like a bag of ice would in a cooler. I believe you would be happier, with a cooler and ice but it all depends on what you want.Good luck to you.

I'd run it on a separate battery.

Save your money and invest in an ice maker. I did and it is the best thing I have done for my cooler and "all the neighbers". Very convenient.

They are nice, but as others have said, ice keeps things colder and there is no worry about batteries. Maybe the best solution would to invest in a highly insulated cooler so the ice lasts longer.

    Thumbs up

I've decided that I will get a 150qt igloo marine with the split top.
We keep our fish on ice. I'll just put the drinks in a tupperware box or gallon ziplock and letem chill with the fish.
    Tahnks for the feedback.

I've found that if you put a solid block in with crushed ice it will last much better. I have 2 Rubbermaid containers about 10"X18" and 5" deep I keep in the freezer. I will dump the block of ice out of one in the bottom of the cooler and then add crushed ice. Works well. Milk jugs or other containers will work, just refreeze when you get home.

I've used one in the big truck for a while. They are designed to drop the temp no more than 40 degrees. so if you're fishin a 90 degree day, drinks will be no lower than 50. Ice machine and a good cooler like the 150 qt will serve you better.

Besides, drinks taste better with a good coat of slime on them.
