Dipping, i think
use a 1/48 oz or lighter jig and a ultra light bobber and dip a the jig around cypress stumps. I fish cypress stump shorelines and there are zillions of cypress trees and finding fish can be tough. So we long pole it and dip around stumps to locate fish. I have not heard this called anything special. What do you call it?

Dip sticking!
Around here, we call it "fishing"..
Sorry, could'nt resist
Stump jumping. lol
It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
Dipping! You got it right DI.
Some will call it stump jumping. My uncle used to put his foot off the front of the boat and steady the boat and fish every tree stump within reach of his rod. Simple just droping a jig or a minow/split shot and some times a slip cork down beside the trees and log jams. Brings back good memories of him thanks.:D
If I remember correctly but without the bobber it's called dapping. Several years ago Bill Dance did a show where he was wading and using a fly rod with a jig for crappie and bluegill and I believe that's what he called it.
Fatman
some old timers called it doodling
I call it a cork rig or strike indicator. We use them on rip rap to keep the jig out of the rocks.
