    Default Shelf life for mono.

What is the shelf life of mono line? What I mean is if you were to get a great deal on some line and bought a whole bunch how long will it be good if you keep it out of the sun?

I have some 4lb Trilene XL that's been stored in a dry basement for 20 years and is still good.

    Default Line storage

I have had line for more than 5 yrs and didn't notice any great change in its charachteristics. I kept it inside in a closet, temp control like the rest of the house. Don't know if it was new when I bought it but held well for 6lb and didn't break when tying knots. Old line kept in a garage when I lived in FL didn't last long at all. I noticed a definite weakness in knot strength and overall strength when setting the hook. These lines were from 10 to 17 lb and were either Stren or Trilene. Off brands didn't last as long as these in the same conditions. Line on rods left in the boat didn't last long at all, just a few months, before weakness began to show. Boat was always covered so heat was the biggest factor. Just my observations, nothing scientific.

You think in the fridge is even better then just in the house?

Yes, as its the heat & Sunlight (UV rays) that screw up mono line.
