Wink Most of mine are ....

    ... 1" - 1.5" - 1.75" - 2"

Though, I do have "some" baits that are slightly larger. Generally speaking, though .... most seem to use the 1.5 & 1.75 inch sizes in tubes & grubs. Curlytails may be longer.
When you look for tubes & grubs ... look for the designation "Crappie" tubes/grubs. Generally speaking, they will be in the smaller/shorter length range.

While it is true that a Crappie has a huge mouth, and can easily take in a bait that's relatively large .... they are prone to feeding more often on things that are much smaller, in relation to their mouth size. While it is true that I've caught Crappie on baits as large as 4" .... I've caught many, many more, & just as big (or bigger) on 1.5" baits.

    ... cp

I have some grubs and tubes in the 1.5-3in range. I buy them in chartreuse or chartreuse/black since i've caught several sunfish using grubs in that color.

As a general rule I will use 1.5 baits 90 percent of the time. It is what I have confidence in. Occasionally I offer another one at 2.0 inches and that would be on a double rig tightline rig setup.

Stick with 1.5 or 2 depending where you are in the country, but there is always room for 1 and 3 or even larger if they are really super picky or real aggressive. If there are tons of fish and your just getting the agressive youngsters, switch to a 3 or even 4 inch grub or swimbait and you'll get the larger ones.

    1. Research the local pro's. See what they are using.

    2. Have a variety of sizes, styles and colors to use because sometimes you need just the right size and color to trigger bites, and then there is the presentation which is a whole different dimension to consider.

    4. Broaden you lures choices to include paddle tails, panfish assassin styles, spinners, and hardbaits.
Good things come to those who bait.

I've noticed that once in a while i'll catch a bass while fishing grubs. There mostly small since the grubs are small.
