Weve Gone To Reelfoot For The Last Six Or Seven Years. Heres What I Know, Stay Away From Hamiltons Resort, We Stay At Sportsmans Lodge, We Get3 Day Fishing Packages Which, Includes Boat Bait Motor, Place To Stay, You Buy License. Crickets Best Bait. We Try To Go As Close To 5/15
As Possible To Catch The Bluegill Spawn .we Use Long Rods And Ultra
Light Shorter Rods To Cast To The Beds. Smallest Floats Possible. Fish The Grass Looking For Something Different. Lots Of Guys Fish The Lilly
Pads, But We Havent Done Any Good There. Spend 175 For A Guide And
You Will Learn A Lot, Golden Mathis From Troy Tn. Is The Guy We Use. He
Is Really Good. Last Year We Used Jugs Made Out Of Swimming Noodles.
For Catfish. We Had A Ball, Grandson Enjoyed That More Than The Bludgill
    Fishing.
    Best Regards

I have fished reelfoot several times for crappie we usually go down the last weekend in march crappie are still in deep water isf it get real warm they will move in close
we stay at cypress point they furnish lodging ,boat, motor, bait and have a cook out one night for you we have been very please with them. This sounds funny but we fish with 15# test line it is real windy on reel foot at least it has been every time we went we would drift for the crappie rig your line with a heavy belll sinker on botton and come up a foot put a hook then do the same again up another foot. we caught a lot of crappie doing this we also took a trolling motor and a portable fish finder this helped a lot right out in front of cypress point is a great place to fish. reelfoot is full of stumps this is why you need the heavy line the first year we went we lost about all our jigs .good luck to ya

Hey thanks for the tips I'm looking at going around the 2nd or 3rd week in April. I hope to catch the timing right for crappie and miss the cold fronts.

I have been to reelfoot a couple times and the guys are right on
First time got a guide to show us how to fish there since we were
from Illinois ( Chicago area).. Drifting is the key. we bought the
crappie rigs they sold at the resort. (Cypress)..The years we went
the dates were in the First 3 weeks of april. Always caught a lot of
    Big crappie.

I even stayed a Hamiltons and it wasn't that bad..
We caught the most fish when when we stayed there.
It doesn't matter how windy it is when you stay
at Hamilitons because it is just a short didtance to the tree
    for shelter from the wind..

Good Luck..Let us Know you you do...

Make sure you idle and do not try to run on the lake. Plenty of stumps.
    And plenty of fish.
If it were me I would try to hire a guide the first day.

if you are going to rent a boat bring a trolling motor, most of the places do not have trolling motors on their rental boats.
