    Default New Crappie species discovered

Went fishin with a friend today and threw some of my hand ties. Crappie, as always, was the quarry. All we could catch were these funny lookin, skinny, jumpy lookin things with a funny stripe on their side. Their lips was funny too. Someone said they was trouts but I aint never catched em on crappie jigs afore. Loads of em too. We had a good day but didn't take none of them anorexic crappie home:D. This here was where we was.

Me and a friend use to go trout fishing on the little red all the time, we would pitch rooster tails and just wear em out. One time I put a crappie jig on a beetle spin and started using it, my friend made fun of me until I put the first trout in the boat that day. I had lots of bites but had a hard time hooking them, they may have been hitting the spinner more than the jig. Anyway loads of fun and they are beautiful fish but crappie are much more tasty in my opinion.,.

A couple years back - we had what we call a 'open winter' (no snow - bare ground). In early Jan, it was quite mild - mid day temps in the upper 30's, low 40's. A buddy of mine took me with him, and we got in to those funky looking crappies ..... caught a big mess that day - there was nothing you could throw that they wouldn't hit....

We threw jigs of all flavors, small cranks, blades, spoons etc. They hit it all. If a spot on the river stopped producing, shift your cast 3-4 feet, and you'd be back in to fish. Quite the day. This was all C&R fishing on barbless hooks.
