    Default spider wire G string

Anybody used this spiderwire G string? I just got some in 6# and was wanting to know how the knot strength is and the memory. I have been using trilene ul for years, but lately we have been fishing a lot of brush and have had trouble with knots breaking.

Maybe a bad batch? I have never had problems with Trilene.CF

Probably an old spool of line if it's breaking that much, are you lubricating your line before you cinch the knot?

You may also want to consider backing off on your drag just a tad.

Don't know much about G string. It seems to be very thick line -- probably 8 or 10# line with a 6# label. I'd compare the diameter with Trilene.

Your knots might be fine. Any knot will break if you exceed the breaking strain of the line.

Is G String a brand name or something. I opened this thread expecting to read about one of them places with search lights in front and a trapeze and a pole inside. I haven't been to one in about 20 years. I don't know if they still wear g strings or not.

I've never used spiderwire but a friend told me you have to use a special knot. He said the instructions on how to tie it were in the box.

That might not be the case. I did a little more looking and found 4# G string on ebay. It was .17 mm in diameter which is a "true" 4# diameter (most 4# line is .20 mm -- about 6# breaking strain.)

It looks like G string "over tests" more often in the heavier lines (that is, it's much stronger than what the package says.)
