    Default Crappie spawning?

What's better for crappie spawning in the spring wet weather dry weather or somewhere inbetween?

    Steady barometer and full moon.

For crappie to successfully spawn they need stable water level and for the water temps to stay within a certain range. For the newly hatched crappie to survive the need habit/cover.

So that means putting out some brush piles will help the little ones survive and help us catch big ones.

Brush piles always helps. This year here in S.C. the crappie would come in to spawn and the rains would hit and run the crappie back to deep water. It took a couple of days for the water temps to come back up, the crappie would move shallow again and the rains would hit again. We didn't have a good spawn this year and all the crappie didn't get to lay their eggs. Like Jerry has said, the water needs to stay stable for a good spawn. So a dry spring is be better than a wet spring.

I kind of thought dryer was better cause we got as many crappie here now as ever and a few years ago it was real dry. I guess the same applies to tidal water crappie too , we fish for crappie alot in the upper reaches of tidal rivers.

I would agree with Gamblinman and add steady water levels

it wasn't a very good year here either (indiana) in some of the lakes i fish but real good in others, the lakes i normally fish didn't produce alot of big crappie this year but lots of the 6 7 and 8 inchers i put them back to grow over the winter and hopefully it's a good sign for the year to come. time to get the ice fishing gear out now, i went out today and caught a few blue gills on a pond aroung the zainsville area nothing to brag about but at least i got my ice fishing fix.
