Fearnofish, there arent any dumb questions here on CDC. We're all here to share and learn brother.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Place your bobber stop on your line first....then a small bead if needed ( some slip bobbers require this and some don't) ..... then slide your slip bobber on the line. Next tie on a hook and place a split shot above it. You can also rig your slip bobber and use a jig instead of just a hook. Slip bobbers are great , I think you will like them. Just slide your bobber stop up or down to set your depth.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

fearnofish,
Another thing you will like about using a slip cork (bobber, float etc.) is that when you go to pull it out of the water the hook or jig will come straight up to the slip cork. So if you have cast or just swung your hook or jig out into a brush top and give the slack needed to get the line down it will go straight down and when you retrieve your hook or jig it comes straight up the same way it went down so you have a lot less chance of getting hung up than with a fixed cork.
Good fishing !

the way the guy on the video did it is
1.put the knot thing on
2.put on bead
3.put on bobber
4.put on another bead
5.put on a swivel
6.put on a leader
7.put some split shots on above the swivel
does that sound right ?
skip 4-6, modify 7 to be "put split shot above the HOOK", add 8. Tie Hook.
For crappie you dont' need a leader unless you're using a large line size (and need the smaller leader) or a pre-made jig setup.
Also I generally measure out my line to the approximate depth BEFORE I tie the stopper knot. This saves un-due wear on the line from moving the knot. ...when moving the knot I run the line through my mouth to keep the line wet. This helps the knot slip.
*shrug* works for me and I'm a newb..
