Go to the NC State Board an introduce yourself and see if there is anyone in your area. Maybe you can hook up with someone that can help you out. There is always someone willing to help another fisherman get on the fish. EB

DO-GOODER EXTRADINAR :p
Are you using sonar to find fish? If so look for them to show on your screen and look for fish that are in like a 5' depth zone or range. So if you see fish in say 20' of water and the fish showing on your screen and the top ones are at 10' and the bottom of the fish is at 15' then try them to see if they are crappie. If the fish are from the almost surface to the bottom chances are it's not crappie.
If you are fishing in places that don't have the water depth they are in at that time then you will not find them.
I can't say every school you see in a 5' range is crappie, but it's better than not having anything to look for.
I don't know anything about your lakes or water or the rock, but I agree with EB that you probably should check with the state board near where you live so someone that fishes the same water can help. All I can tell you is very general things that may or may not apply to you and your lake.

What size hook are you using?
I switched from a #4 to a #6 last weekend and started to catch fish. Buddy and I where fishing and that was the only difference between our set-ups. e was catching them and I wasn't. I switched hooks and started catching fish too.
