    Default Balloon Fishing

OK, am I gullable or what, I need advice. An old timer at work got to talking about speck fishing and he said. Catch the first fish in fall and hook em' up with a balloon. Then follow him around. Always cast within 10 foot of the balloon and ya will do real good. Now It makes perfect sense if they school up in the fall and I guess they sort of do that. What do you think, any one ever done it?

I'm going speck fishing in 6 days out of Biloxi, MS. I've been several times but never heard of the balloon method.

This method (and it's legality) have been discussed many times, most recently just a few days ago:

Surprisingly illegal in FL. Know the local laws.

Grandpa says he and his brother fished like that before there were depth/fish finders. I've never know grandpa to be a bull****er.

    Thumbs down

I'll pass as I am not looking to get a ticket from the GW. As in previous posts, certainly not legal.

Just to be clear, my comment was to weather or not it works, not weather or not it is legal.

Yes, I see your point. Guess I have no interest in finding out whether or not something works that is not legal.

But, as to whether or not it would work. Just because a fish is caught and released does not seem clear to me as to whether or not they would go back to where they were. And where they were might not be where other fish are located. Guess you could try and prove it one way or the other.... but, there again, how can you prove whether it works or not if it's not legal.

I have heard that to be true for many years. i have never tried it. If i didnt have a HB I would try it, legal or not.
