to start showing up on structure you place in a lake? Thinking about putting some out this sunday and then hitting it next the next weekend to see if anything is there. I've HEARD of people putting structure out, then fishing it a couple hours later and catching fish

Well I am not expert on this, but the type material will make a difference. I put some bamboo in the lake year before last that I went back to the next day and caught fish. Not that is was full of fish yet, but they were there the next day.

Yeh...It will probably attract some fish in a week. It will really attract them after the algae and plankton has had time to grow on it. That attracts baitfish which in turn attracts crappie.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

This past spring I caught 25 crappie off of bamboo crappie condos that had been in the water for less than a week. (6 days)
