    Default Best kept secret

I'm a new member from Toledo, Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. Just retired from the railroad after more than 40 years and also a Vietnam vet "68-69 101st airborne b-battery 2|11 artillery. I fish 7 days a week in the many marinas on Lake Erie.My best kept secret is using white maggots or spikes as they are called(not wax worms) putting one or two on the tip of the hook. They produce a scent that the crappies and bluegills can't resist. I never use minnows but catch as many as those who do. If interested you can purchase them through Ja-Da Bait in Wisconsin. P.O. Box 217 Antigo,Wi 54409 (1-800-861-4415) Welcome to www.jadabait.biz If you order 1000 the cost is $13.50 including shipping. Once received, refrigerate. Take only what you need to fish for that trip in small container. They should last for 3 to 6 months. I've found that maggots are better than wax worms because they have tough skin and aren't easily stolen.

The pictures on the website show red maggots. Do they sell other colors?

Welcome to the boards Bill Wester. I personally have never fished with maggots but if you'll check out the bream forum and do a search you'll find out they are a favorite of alot of fishermen. Lots of tips, tricks, and secrets to help you catch more fish are shared here on crappie.com and it's good to see you have a few to add to the mix. I hope you enjoy the boards and just wanted to say Hi & welcome you from Georgia.

Bill, this is Gary from Brownlee. Glad to see you finally retired. Come on over here if you can, the crappie have never slowed down all year and the gills are turning on.
This guy really knows how to catch panfish. 5 or 6 years ago he came out west and fished with me. I put him on some deep schools of fish and he hammered the crappie, gills & perch. He has some killer techniques & rigs.
