Default I'm Planning on Breakfast at Green Acers 8-29-09

The weather for Melvern tomorrow checks out OK and I'll have a open slot on my boat if anyone wants to join in and show me how to catch some crappie there. Will be drowning minnows. This will be about 15 days since I've last fished for crappie so those critters just may be very elusive for me.

I'm planning on leaving here Prairie Village at 4:30 am out 75th St to I-35 South down to Ottawa and over to Green Acers for breakfast.

If anyone is interested and is the first to respond to this thread and we'll work out details on hooking up.

Slab Daddy are you trying to stir the pot a little too. well thats allright. Yes I will be heading out to Melvern on Sat. prefishing for the tournament on Sunday unfortunantley I will be with my partner all day. and won't be able to show you anything, but the good news is you don't need me to help you out because crappie chatt told where and how to catch them on another thread I can't remeber what it was called how long or something like that but any way if I remeber it was something about an Arkansas rigg with a treble hook and a minnow off of eack hook and they were catching them 3 at time fished 2 hrs. caught a 1,000 cleaned 700,cooked and ate 300, just 2 guys in about a 1/2 an hour, shouldn't be a problem. (just havin fun some chatt don't get riled up) You might check with Labs n Slabs he's a pretty good fisherman and if you can afford to feed him he might be able to help you out because he is headed that way also. Good Luck

Default Well Putting This Thread Back On Track!

Here is my report for Saturday.

As expected the breakfast at Green Acres was again a high light for the day. At least it will definitely be a high light for the day on the water even if the catching doesn't turn out to be one.
As I was finishing my last cup of coffee at breakfast Eric (luckylivewell) came in and we had a good conversation. We discussed our plans for the day attempting to influence the other to abandon their plans and join the other for the fishing day. He was going to the Goon and I was going to Melvern. I have never been to the Goon but am certainly planning to check it out for some winter fishing. We ended up staying with our own plans yesterday but I left knowing I would certainly be ready for making some future planned fishing outing with Eric. We bought minnows and followed each other to the intersection of H 75 where he turned north and I turned south.

This info is just for Doug to file away as to whether it is or isn't a indicator for if the fish will be biting or not for the day. On the way to the lake the cows in the pastures were lying down. I don't take stock in this idea or not as an indicator of anything but will discuss the subject.:D

The first picture is my notes for the day showing the number of legal fish, their length, the time caught and the total count when it was caught and the bottom right shows the time I quit fishing and going back to the ramp. It certainly wasn't a stellar day for catching Melvern slabs but if I had been keeping I would of had a small mess. Again as usual the wind was blowing more than what NOAA was showing when I looked the previous evening.

The next two pictures are pictures of each legal fish I caught and released yesterday.

After leaving my sheltered cove I intended to go out on the main lake and drop shot over brush piles just to increase my total fish count knowing I probably wouldn't be catching many keeper size. Well I didn't increase the total count much at all and didn't catch any more legals finally decided I had dealt with enough wind and called it a day.

Following is a interesting and funny side note about tournament fishermen protocol. During the morning I only had three boats in my area. One boat fished the point and left without entering where I was fishing. Two other boats pre-fishing the next days tournament came into the cove where I was fishing. The first boat stopped by and we had a good conversation about fishing and how we were doing. Think I even caught a fish while we were talking. On leaving the first boat said "oh if that other boat stops by don't tell them about how your fishing is going" he said this with a knowingly humorous tone in his request. I remember it well from my days prefishing for club bass tournaments how it all worked.:D

Well that second boat did stop by wanting to know if I was LBM and that second boat was labsandslabs and his partner. We had a good conversation and I got to meet a fellow crappie dot com'er.

I'll be interested in how that tournament turns out and if I should have gone to the Goon with Eric.

Thanks for the good report LBM. It was great to meet up with you yesterday. I'm looking forward to when we can plan better in the future and drive out together; 'cause I sure wish I rode w/ you yesterday!

As i'm launching the boat, i spring a leak in one of the truck's break lines. I went ahead and fished a few hours without any luck, but was too concerned about getting back, so left early and empty handed. Just glad to get back without incident..

Well Lee it looks like you had a pretty good day, just think what it would've been like if those cows had been EATIN !!( We're still here in "colourful Colorado", taking some mild hikes, seeing some mountains, still like to live out here but I don't think there's any crappie fishin and there's too many DONKEY fans) We'll be headin back tomorrow so I'll expect to hear fishin lies,,err,,reports from you:D
FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS & FISHING...... hopefully in that order but honestly, not always!
