I'm sorry for your lost ,Patrick our prayers go out to you and his family.
To my good friend and second dad Mr. Houston Goodwin. He lost his fight with Luekimia (sp) yesterday at the age of 73. He had fought it for 17 years, and had beaten it 3 times prior.
That man has done more for me except my real dad than anyone in this world.
Mr. Houston is the reason that I crappie fish now. Back in my bass days, he asked me one day why I'd rather bass fish. I told him I just would rather be casting. The old man laughed and said, "naw, the reason you don't crappie fish is because you don't know HOW to catch em."......LOL, I set out to catch em one spring just to prove him wrong, and have never looked back. One of the many challenging statements he has made to me that were oh so true. Can't thank him enough for that and everything else he has done for me, and with me. There is not a doubt in my mind he is the reason I am who I am today.
Please take a min and send up a prayer for his wife and family if you don't mind.
Thanks
p

Hate to hear it. That man was tough as nails and a fixture in Grenada his entire life.
Way back in the day, he had a slough out behind his home. I was probably 9 or so. Anyway, my Dad asked permission occasionally to take me and work buddy out there and fish a few times. It was always chuck full of bass and crappie. Can't remember a trip where we didn't catch a few slabs to throw in with the Bass that would hit Spinnerbaits. Caught my personal best at the time out of it at 7 lbs, 10 oz. Not bad for a 9 year old and that best held for another 10 years. It'd be another 23 years before I even wondered what it would have been like to go in there trying to catch Crappie.
All that to say, my Dad didn't know him well at all. He just asked and Mr. Houston just said yes. And his generosity made a lasting memory for me and my Dad.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
Prayers sent. Sounds like a great guy.
