Conditions will be tough for sure. Add muddy water and they will be releasing plenty of water. Good luck fellers we will need it. Lee

With the flooding that the Platte River is having, I doubt they will release any water this week. This should keep the lower lake from getting muddy. I wouldn't venture too far above Trimble on Sat. Now the cold fronts might have an effect. It could be tough fishing, but fair weather after three days of storms might just turn them on! Finding the right depth they are using will be key. The fish may move way up in the water column and only be about five feet below the surface. Time and tube jigs will tell!

Just checked the lake level and it has jumped two feet! Ok so maybe the lower lake will be more stained!

Drove by the lake this evening... lots of floating limbs etc close to the dam... and a telephone pole sized log close to the hwy E bridge. (Wondering what I DIDN'T see?)

Called the Corps and the lake is up 4 feet! I've got a crew going out to do some work and will be checking water clarity and debris levels. I'll let you guys know what we see.

Took the family tubing at Smithville this afternoon for their last fling before school starts tomorrow. As long as we weren't right in front of the dam there was little debris. Navigating shouldn'tt be a problem Saturday. We didn't go further north than the golf course but there was no debris in the lower ends of either arm. The water clarity was still good, unfortunately my favorite clump of trees will be hard to find Saturday! One of these days I really should mark them on my GPS! The bite may be tough Sat. Who knows where they'll go. I don't think water temp changed on the main lake at all. It's stilll 81. The coves may be cooler. Looks like good weather for Sat. The Corps will most likely not be drawing any water off with the Platte River flooding. Tonight and tomorrow's rain will most likely insure that they won't be drawing the lake down. That'll keep the lower half or more fairly clear. Looking forward to Sat and meeting everyone. I might have to sneak out Thursday and do some pre-fishing! Wouldn't look good for the biologist to get skunked! I'd go Friday, but I have a meeting in Columbia that day.

Being the optimist I am a friend called today and said he wanted to fish, so we loaded up and headed to Smithville today. Water levels where we normally fish were 7 feet higher than normal!!!!!!!!!! Water was actually not that bad visibility wise at all. Colors for the day were orange/chartreuse and blue/white. 44 foot of water caught the fish 4-20 foot down. Kept 22 and caught ALOT of shorts. No monster fish, 9-11". SLOW retrieve and constant jigging was the ticket for the day. Had to downsize tubes to 1" and 1/64 oz jigs. God bless.

Suprisingly 18 were black crappie and only 4 were whites. Here's the proof that they were biting today. God bless. http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k43/ASASIN777/0818091841a.jpg
