    Default Clinton Saturday

Fished Clinton today with my son. 10:30 am till 4pm...fished it hard with everything we had. NO FISH! Wow, what a tough day in the wind. We tried brushpiles with minnows and tree dippin', trolling plugs...the works. Nothing happening....not even a white or a wiper.

We could see fish over the brush and stayed on them with our Kentucky rigs for hours. Could not get them to bite. Any ideas...we thought about jigs but decided to stay with the bait.

    How did everyone else do?

ChadKu and i fished way back in Rock Creek on Saturday. Fished from 7:00 to 12:00. I had 9 and Chad had 5. I caught all of mine on 2" Beaver Tails and i do believe Chad caught his on Minners. It was a tough day of fishing, but we didn't have to deal with the wind.

Took the kids Carp fishing Saturday afternoon at HD. Chummed um with corn in the morning. It was good. Got um into some big fish. Lost some big fish. Cats were decent. Fished the marsh a bit, just too polluted with mudcats, wasn't good. Glad I chummed the creek also.

Saturday's wind was a killer for me also. I took some friends out and tried to find some fish. We managed around a dozen in two hours, but it was totally miserable for me. It's been a long time since I ran the trolling motor on 10, but I was cranking it up there fairly regularly just to keep from blowing into the rocks. I ended up hitting my marker buoy twice, and snapped the line on it.

Just terrible... If I looked away for a second, we were blown off our spot. Just tying on a jig was an impossible mission...

One bright note though... The big fish went to my friend who hadn't been fishing since he was 7 years old!!! His girlfriend had never caught a fish in her life, and she managed to get one also. So that was kinda cool. For all that work it took, I hope they don't swear-off ever fishing again.

We ended up playing golf after lunch, cause at least the golf cart wasn't going to blow away.

Bulljon as for me that is just the way fishing is. One day I can really catch them and start thinking I know how to catch them and then next day I just flounder around out there not catching squat but on those days I can get it figured out after a bad start is what makes it fun and satisfying.

Thanks...I know the techniques that Chatt showed me will work at Clinton. I did get my fishfinder mounted on the bow of my pontoon, what a difference that makes for staying over the fish. I went out again last night ahead of the thunderstorms. There is a brushpile with fish on it in about 30' of water, I can see them suspended at 15 - 20'. I tried everything I had on them and for the life of me cant get them to bite. This is the sort of thing that I makes me want to go back. All I can figure is that they are NOT BITING! This will be on my mind all week while I am traveling to North Carolina for work.

LBM is right, getting a lake figured out is half the fun. I am sorry to hear that the wind was as much of a problem for squirrels...sounds like he made it a great time for a couple of folks...great job! All we can do is saddle up and try again. Hopefully things will cleanup this week.

Jon, ya had to be very limited to where ya could fish with those gale-force winds. We all have those kinda days,,,we just don't report them often and readers forget them just as fast. Be carefull driving/flying to NC. I heard someone from Melvern died in a wreck on 75 near Lyndon last Saturday. The crappies will miss ya:D:D <*)}}}><

Well Bulljon this is a little late to be posting but I went to Clinton last thursday and fished from 7:30 til 6:30 and only ended up with 6 crappie I also caught 3 channel cats( one was about 5lbs.), 1- white bass and 1- smallmouth(did'nt know Clinton had any) All fish were caught on minnows and ranged from 10.5 - 12.5, really a slow day but thanks to Rons post and a phone call, I got to fish some very good looking cover, lots of narly bodark trees up in rock creek. Saw an eagle first thing and got a couple of pics. but they turned out kinda fuzzy so not going to try and post them All in all it was a plesant day to be on the water, good cloud cover and not too hot:D I thought maybe I might catch a few more fish not being behind Lee "the hoover" Maxwell but apparently I have more problems than I thought
FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS & FISHING...... hopefully in that order but honestly, not always!

Late Sunday evening I decided to try for some more thumps today so went to Hillsdale and fished from daylight till around 1:00pm catching 16 total and only 3 legals. Think it was about 50/50 catching with minnows and small white beaver tail. I left around 1pm when a dark threatening cloud came in and got drenched at the ramp while loading out. I was tending to want to stay out but shortly before the weather became threatening the trolling motor took a shaft bending thump where one could only change directions with much effort. So came home took trolling motor off and in to Jerry's for repairs.

None of the places in the Little Bull Doug and I fished the Tuesday before produced for me and I didn't get a chance to check the Wade out.

I intended to post this picture yesterday but just remembered it. It was on the Little Bull and there were pods of shad just about everywhere from the lower right foreground to every where thought out that picture. Maybe that's the reason they didn't bite very well there was just a smorgasbord of shad from one side of the lake to the other for them to dine on.

The aluminum deep-V catches a ton of wind, plus we have the big windshield. It really gets tossed around in the wind. It's the only downside I have found about that boat. Still, I'm not complaining. The rig is well suited for the way we generally use it. I just notice that the fiberglass bass boats don't have nearly the trouble with the wind that I do.

That sucks, LBM. I haven't broken anything major yet. Hope you get your tm back soon.
