    Question Draggin Crank Bait

I Am Planning On Trolling With Some Crank Baits This Fall,
Actually This Weekend. Does Anyone Drag A Crank Bait With
A 70 Hp Force Engine. One Mechanic Told Me I Would Gum Up The
Carburator If I Ran The Boat That Slow. He Didnt Sound Real
Confident And I Wonder If He Knew What He Was Talking About.
My Motor Is A 1996 Model With Very Few Hours On It. I Would
    Appreciate Any Info.
    Thanks

Hi Chef, I wouldn't say it couldn't be done... but my guess is that he
probably is right. I figure it would be pretty easy to foul plugs out.
I troll with a 50 Honda, and even it bucks and jerks a little after several
hours at low speed. I have to use a trolling (baffle) plate behind the prop -
about 3 mph is the slowest it will idle without it. I usually go 1.5 -2 mph
when I'm pulling crankbaits. Dragging a couple of drift socks or even 5 gallon
buckets is one way of doing it, though not very convenient.

is it a oile injected or do you have to mix it . the tank mix is 50 to1 all the time and the oil injection verries acording to speed . a long time trolling will foul pluggs from oil build up .. you would need to run wot every now and then it would clear it out .
go to this site and post it in the motor brand forum and TMD will explaine it to you .

Yes I pull cranks with my 96,75 hp Force motor. That is one reason I bought the motor so I wouldn't have to get a 9.9 hp as a kicker motor. I pull cranks along the channels for Walleye's. It will run from 1.5-2 mph which is ideal for most cranks. If it loads up a bit just run it a little faster for a while and then go back to ideling again.

I MIX THE OIL AND GAS TOGETHER. THANKS FOR THAT WEB SITE
IT IS GREAT. I POSTED THE QUESTION AND AM WAITING FOR A REPLY.
I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE OIL BUILD UP. THE LONGEST WE WOULD
TROLL IS ABOUT 3 TO 4 HOURS. MY WIFE WILL GIVE OUT THEN AND I
WILL GO VERTICAL FISH OVER THE PLASTIC AND TRY TO CATCH SOME
    SLABS.
THANKS, BE SAFE AND GOOD LUCK ON THE WATER

i would think that if you had a extry tank to run while trolling it wouldn`t foul the pluggs if you mix less oil in the tank. my motor is 50 to 1 a 100 to one mix on some of the newer motors wouldn`t foul as easey . oor go to a hotter plugg . on my motor that is a 50 1973 . the factory plug is a serface gap . the manul sujested t if it fouls easy or a lot of slow running torun the gap type plug . the L77JC4.. i now have a 55 HP 1979 . it is recomended to run QL77JC4.

after trolling run wot for a bit to clear out excess oil.

I troll with my 115 4 Stroke or with a min kota auto pilot. It is very hard on a 2 stroke to troll for a prolonged period. No doubt it can be done, but it can damage them.

I have to agree, AMSOIL is good stuff. I like the 100:1 synthetic that they make. My motor starts easier and runs better at all speeds with that oil. You can tell the biggest difference when you are at idle or trolling. I would definatly recomend it.
