    Default Spider rig rods

OK, I'm new to this stuff, but why does one need a 10' rod in front of the boat to spider rig? It seems to me that a 5' to 7' will do the trick.
Keep some for the pan, let the larger ones go back for another day!

Keeps your baits way out in front of the TM.....

Also the longer rods allow you to lift the fish (like using a canepole) without having to reel in waters up to 15 ft or so....

I use all 16ft rods. You need that bait as far away from the TM as you can get it.

Longer the rod the wider the swath of water You cover. Also the before mentioned trolling motor issue. The shallower the water you are spider rigging in, the more effective the longer rods will be. CF

I use 12' WM Titeline Specials. I have found that a three piece rod is hard to assemble and break down in the boat. They can also easily handle the heavy weight I use to keep the line nearly vertical.

I use 12' B&M pro trollers. I Would prefer 14' poles or longer, but don't like having to break them down for transport.

I use 4'6" BPS micro-lite rods. They are behind the TM, where the transducer is. I don't like having the pole out the front with the transducer on it. With them behind the TM I can see brush before I get to it and the don't get in the TM. I have used long rod but storeing them is a problem and I like the fight of the fish.

I use all 14 ft BnM's The pro staff trollers. Work very well. I have used the 12's and the 16's but prefer the 14's myself... try several different lengths till you come up with something that you like....
