I am wondering if the crappie in Stockton and the crappie in Truman are the same or are they different strains? They look different so I am wondering if it's the environment they are in or something else?
Yea, I know what you guys mean. The fish here are thin, if you caught one of these at Truman, you wouldn't even measure it and throw it back, but they are 9 and 10 inches.

I notice the 2 lbers cause more strain than the nojoes do. Just kidding good question. I am sure our new biologist on here can inlighten us on the subject. He is a great addition to our group.
good thread ... BUMP
Supreme Leader of the Missouri Crappie Militia.........
My guess is they're the same strain but the fish in truman are healthier because of the water fertility, more aquatic life means bigger healthier fish......imho.

I've never heard of a florida strain crappie, just black and white.
Dont forget the blacknose crappie.

There are only two species of crappie, whites and blacks. There can be different strains within a species, but I suspect the real difference here is in body condition. Fast growing crappie will not only be longer, but thicker and taller too. Black crappie are generally taller, distance from dorsal fin to anal fin, than whites. Whites tend to be more elongated.
I don't know about the Florida strain crappie but I do know Florida strain bass on lake Fork Texas are hard to beat! I don't think I've ever caught so many 5+# fish on a lake in my life!
