Minn Kota is the only way to go!!!! I have a 62 inch saft on my bow fishing boat and have hit anything and everything at hight speeds and it just flexes and keeps on going. Wal-mart carries alot of props and things for them as well. I have a motor guide on my crappie boat and it's good but loud and I don't trust the shaft as much

I have a minn kota and love it the only advice I would give is get more thrust lb. than you think you will need, ie, it is better to have 80lb and need 50lb than it is to have 50 and need 80 makes fishing in the wind a breez... good luck

I had the same question you have about trolling motors when I was looking for a new one. I have a 15' bass boat and needed more than the 40lb troller I had on it.

I bought a 55lb Minn Kota V2 Powerdrive, Autopilot, Universal Sonar, 12V and love it. I bought it with the wireless remote control which makes trolling so much easier.

Going with the 12 or 24v, I guess depends on how you will use the motor. I use my troller for moving from tree to tree and hovering set on a power setting of 5 out of 10. So, I use the thing in intermittent intervals. Apparently, using the motor intermittently instead of constantly wears the battery down quicker. My fishing trips are a least 5 hour long and I have never drawn the battery below the 1/2 volt gage on the troller.

Good luck with your purchase. I know it can get confusing with all the info out there about the trollers.

Minn Kota for me. 70# Maxum on my boat and I need it all at times.

I've had Motor Guides. Never any major problems with them. I prefer the rigidity of the Minn Kota and the toughness of the shaft and motor.

Whichever you choose to buy, just make sure you get enough thrust pounds.
