    Default Kansas Fisheries

Howdy...am looking to plan a trip to Kansas in the spring with my father to go after crappie and catfish.

Was hoping to get a recommend from the members on which lake would be best.

Will be using a hotel and not camping, likely about a 3 or 4 day trip. I live in Nebraska so about any part of the state is a fairly easy drive for me but the northern half would be easiest for me. :p

    Any tips? Thanks! Joe

I have heard Ceder Bluff is a good crappie lake, so is Clinton Lake. Get a hold of CrappieChatt, he lives in Lawrence, KS. He should be able to get you headed in the right direction.

I used to Hunt and Fish Wilson which is very close to Nebraska. It has some excellent state game areas, as well as good fishing. El Dorado is NE of Wichita, and it has some good crappie, cats, and bad azz walleye. Lots of standing timber. Not a lake to be in when the wind is up. I have seen 3' swells come up after fishing a half day, and scared to leave where I was nice and safe out of the wind. But the ramp had to be made. I just knew a wave was going to drop my 14' Alum through a tree top as I would hit the bottom of it. Nice lake for fish though. I miss the Hunting/Fishing Kansas offered.

My partner and I fished on Clinton Lake for the first time this year. We took 3rd there is a CAST tournament. There are some great fishing spots in that lake, but man can the wind get bad! I've never fished Perry or Pamona, but I hear good things about those 2 as well.

I believe that Crappie Chatt (board member) guides on several lakes in KS.

Another source you might want to check with would be either Tim of Todd of CAST Their phone number is 913-322-2919. Both of these guys are highly successful Crappie fisherman, and live in KS as well.

If you are wanting to fish the Southern half of KS, then I would suggest you get ahold of Mike Simpson (board member) for advise or guiding in that area. He specializes on Kaw Lake, OK. Mike Simpson

Full baskets to ya when you go!

All the above posts have been steering you in a good direction but to elaborate and add to the above I would suggest the Topeka Kansas area. From Topeka you would have Perry Lake, Clinton Lake, Pomona Lake and Melvern Lake very close by.

Of those four lakes you should beable to find one that would have good fishing for you at the time you were planning on fishing.

Go to http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/fis...ishing_reports the KDWP fishing reports and check up on the above listed lakes in the Region 2 and Region 5 areas.

Also check out http://www.davescountry.com/index.shtml and see what some of the locals are saying about those lakes in the fishing forum.

    Good Luck
