Default Tube jig vs hair/feather jig

I'm sure this thread has been started before, but if you had to choose one or the other...

    tube jigs
    or
    hair/feather jigs

Does one texture gain an edge over the other in various water temp, clarity, season, crappie species--or does that simply fall back on the general color, regardless of type?

Does a hair/feather jig tube need a different presentation than a tube jig of equal weight/size/color? (vert jigging, flipping, casting, slow trolling, under a bobber, etc)

I'm interested in purchasing some homemade hair/feather jigs to trial in some North Carolina lakes. I would greatly appreciate your experience and opinions!

    Thank you,
    Jeremy

Caught fish on both. Tube jigs are readily available here so that's what I use, but I like hair jigs....especially no-alibis. Just cannot hardly find them anywhere closeby.

Tubes are very cheap and have a life-like feel that hair/feathers can't match. On the other hand, hair/feathers have better action in the water, particularly if it's cold.

    Both catch fish.

Fish either one Feather or Tubes. Learn to present the pattern you like. That would be my advise.

I am a fan of both depending on the conditions for that day. The fish will tell you what is their desire. If it is cold, you will get more action out of a hair or feather jig.

When fish are finacky they will take the feather or hair better over plastic tube. It is the slow undulation movement that will intice them into biting the jig. I use maribou quite a bit too. In colder water they have better movement over plastic. I use them all and like Ship said let the fish tell you what they want for dinner. You don't have to move the maribou or feather/hair jig to get any action out of the jig like you do with the tube. EB

I'd make sure to have both in my box at all times!! There are times when they want the plastic and times when they want feather tied jigs.

I use both. what ever it takes. You can pump up a tube jig with nibblets. I do like the tube for that reason. I also use a lot of the Jiffy Jig. Find the fish and it will be much easier to find out what they want.
