Default preference bait for summer time vert. jigging

Just curious as to what your pick would be, for vertically fishing timber, brush or even docks and pilings in the hot summer, will say 8-15 deep.
Something big and gaudy, like an umbrella tube, or a crappie thunder tube?
Or a slightly more passive large bait, like a single tail bait, say a bobby garland 3 inch slab slayr, or his minnow bait?

Cant seem to make my mind up

My go to lately is a blk/chart Assasin. Done pretty well for the past couple weeks. The other I've used is a hand tied jig with a minnow tip. Colors were bright.

    Whatever works...I mean, be flexible.

    Small jigs in blue/white; red/white; black/char; red/char; plain white; white/char (all w nibbles)

and all the above with a minnow tip if they don't work without 'em.

Be flexible our you'll be fishless--especially in the summer.

In my home lake, Truman, for me the big baits work best 1/8 oz head, yum wooly beavertails, crappie magnums, 3" slab slayer's, big swimming minnows. But you still have to be flexable like Arkie John says, if my usual stuff doesn't work I go to 1/16 oz and smaller tubes. Even been known to drop to 1/32 and 4# line but that's rare for me.

I never go over a 1/16 oz jig as I''m fishing in water not deeper than 6-8 foot I like a slow fall . just keep it above the fish as crappie eyes look up. Move it around as you may be fishing behind the fish or below the fish, swim it from different angles into the fish? most important is Keep Your LURE in the water. makes sense??

I tend to agree with the slow fall. I am not much of a finesse fisherman but when the water heats up I think more about slow drop than style or color. I generally fish 1/16 & 1/32 but will go lighter this time of year & winter also.
I have had some pretty good success tightlining a jig motionless, and especially like a maribou rather than plastics in doing so.
