Wished I could help you out Nightprowler, but my knife is still working after 3 years of heavy use(knock on wood:o). Sounds like it's probably time to invest in a new one.
I'm in need of the plasic gear from an American Angler model #31000 electric filet knife. It is the gear with operates the blades. The plastic gear has 2 ears and as the gear revolves it moves the blades back and forth. The factory has quit making this model. If anybody can help PM me. Thanks.

Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
I couldn't go back to a regular filet knife. I have a brand new one thats been waiting for this day. It's a electric knife by the makers of storm lures. It's more compact in my hand and works great. I just hate to throw away a knife for a .29 cent part. But thats the "AMERICAN (angler) WAY"!
the hard part is getting the part
That's why I get the Mister Twister electric fillet knives, only bad part is you need a plug in to use them.
