Default Smithville Tips – Pulling Water

Taking my son fishing Saturday morning at Smithville. It’s his 8th birthday and when I asked what he wanted to do he said eat breakfast and go fishing. I couldn’t be happier.

My question is they will most likely still be pulling water and that usually means tough fishing. I’ll try some main lake brush and dipping trees above W.

Any Tips? I will post a report Saturday or Sunday. Thanks

Yep, the flood gates are open 1000 cubic feet/second for today's lake report. I won't be able to make it out on the lake for a couple of weeks, so I will watch for the reports. I always head into coves up by Trimble when they start letting the water out. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Thanks. Are you the one I've run into at the gas station in Kearney? I asked how fast that thing would run.

Try the trees just outside the coves, the bigger the tree the better it seemed on this last wednesday morning. They were hitting about 8' to 10' down in 30' and less of water, I just tossed the jig upstream of current and let the current bring it back. Try the Slab Seeker jigs from Burtons and let that youngster catch all he can, hopefully he will pull in a couple over 13". Let us know how much fun ya'll had. Please? Good luck! Jared

I am the one you ran into. Sorry I didn't get anything posted last night, we got back late and it was a long, long day. Am posting in just a minute.

Fishing was pretty slow for us. Brush piles all short and a lot of very light strikes (small fish?) Dipping trees we did manage a couple on black and chartreuse slab busters 10 foot down between 18 and 25 fow. Didn’t fish too long; remember I was with an 8 year old. We even jumped in the lake for awhile. When he’s with me we just have fun. All in all a great day. How does it get any better than fishing with your son! Sorry I don’t have a better report for you guys.
