Fishing Trip Report

Will admit got skunked.......it was still a fun day


We were at the lake 7:30 Am
Used artificial baits, minnows, bee moths for 3 hours........the bobber went
down slowly twice.........tried to set the hook to no avial.

Even saw a crappie fins on top of the water and flicked over that way
nothing.

Finally we came back to the dock. There was about 25 beds of bluegills
nesting and drop a line in the middle of the nest. They would not even
bite to protect their nest.

So I started loading the car, Ternie my 17 year grand daughter keep
playing around the beds..........finally she caught one



Then came time to take it off the hook

"Pa would you take it off ............PLEASE"

"NO YOU HAVE TO LEARN.........here is what you do"

"Pa pretty please"

"NO............NO" I keep loading the car

15 minutes later she still had him on the hook.......ever once in while
she would put it back in the water to keep it alive.

After 15 minutes
"PA...........................they are slimmy.....................PLEASE"

I went up shore and sat on the swing and watched her trying to figure
out what to do.



She got into my tackle box and got a pair of pliers
with one hand holding the fishing line she grabbed the hook with the pliers

and bent over and put the fish in the water getting my pliers wet
until the fish unhooked himself



So the question being
"What if we caught a bunch of them who was going to clean them??

On the days their Mother works 2 Grand Kids spend the day with us while school is out ... The oldest of the 2 is 13 and he does love to fish .. we do have a few places here at the mouth of the river that they can fish from the bank ... well he is worn out on fishing artificials and has gotten on to this live worm kick ... (He has fished with and knows how to fish crickets) well today he had left his money at home for buying a box of worms .. make a long story short I thought it was time for him to find some natural bait on his own ... its real dry and I know trying to get a few worms would be rough so I suggested grass hoppers .... yep they got out there and rounded up 25 or 30 but the fish were not bite-n ... a younger friend landed the only good fish 3/4 # gill ......

Now I gotta get him into diggin some wigglers.

Summer Projects and man it is so hot (like late July & August) it slows down us getting some good fishin in (yep heat has gotten to be).

I taught him right off how to unhook a fish .. really bite-n they learn in a hurry to get that fish off ... and a hook back in the water.

At least you were on the water with your granddaughter. That's not being skunked, that's teaching her that this sport has lots of challenges and you were just showing her all the challenges first. Next trip go and get a bunch of crappies. It has been 95+ down here in Alabama the past three weeks. Crappies are no where close to shorelines. They are all deep in 30+ feet of water.

Talk about not being skunked. I take my 5 year old grandson. I was talking to a buddy the other day about a little fishing trip with my grandson. A lady overheard and ask how old he was and she thought that was too young. I told her he loved it and can already swim also gave her the following quote.

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life"

He's already learning to read the fishfinder pretty good.
