Question Springfield, La. - fishing opinions

I've got to go to Springfield, La. in about 3 weeks to pick up a Gator Trax boat. I wouldn't mind going a couple of days early if I could get in some good fishing. I don't care if it is crappie, big bream, bass or specks, redfish, or flounder. Has anyone got an opinion as to whether the fishing would be good for any of the above and who might be a good guide. Thanks.

Don't know where Springfield is, but the venice area is getting a lot of press lately. Lots of good guides and lots of fish. One guide that sticks in my mind is Theophile Bougious. Said "toe-feel booshwah". Has a bunch of top hands working with him if he doesn't take you himself. Good luck, hope you can work it out.

Since the netting was stopped a long time back now, but most all the coast of La. & TX are great red fish and speckled trout. If you go after the reds down there you should be able to have a great time. Nothing like the run of a red fish in shallow water. One mean dude.

Venice is a super place to fish out of, but it's further than I need to go. Springfield is not too far north of Lake Pontchartrain so that may be my best bet.

I talked to Kent at Gator Trax who is an avid crappie fisherman. He said the crappie fishing at Springfield had been outstanding but Katrina or one of the hurricanes had killed out their crappie. Evidently the Louisiana fisheries people decided not to restock it as natural reproduction will do the job at some point. What's a guy to do until that point comes?

There are still plenty of fish to be had. Hit the Pearl River system and even more importantly - hit the GRAVEL PITS!

people are doing mighty fair on L Ponchartrain in the salt......no need to go to Venice, Hopedale, Delacroix, etc.
