Just was talking about this last weekend on the lake, I would like to know the reasoning as well. Seems to me the best place to drive a boat would be from the middle.
Why do we drive cars from the left but boats from the right

If you buy a center console, you can drive from the middle. Same goes for a stick steer. But still, I also wonder about that same thing.

I was once told by a marine dealer it's for balance.......to offset the torque of the prop wanting to kick the boat CCW when under power.
If I Ain't Crappie Fishin', I'm Thinkin' About It............
I tell ya Center console is the way to go on these 20' and under fishin boats. The side console's just get in the way of a good fishin spot.
That may be why the salt water bay runner's are all center consoles now, I just wish our bass boats would catch up!! =D Nitro has one but wants 50k for its center console bass boat XD
P.S. I read that the little wings you can put on your outboards will cut that torque steer thing out completely.

Well, according to Evinrude, luvjign is correct. In the early days with small boats and low power motors an empty boat would raise up on the starboard side with the motor running. So putting us beer belly fishermen over there keeps it down. Now days you can get motors where the prop turns either direction so it is less important where the driver sits.

I love my Kenner. Stand/sit in the middle to drive and walk all the way around to fish. Hence the name Centerdriver.
